Body image

Body image is a serious issue that is taking over young teenagers every day. Body image affects self esteem and general well being which can lead to mental ilnesses and isolation.

So what is BODY IMAGE?

Your body image is how you view yourself. Many teenagers find themselves judging and comparing themselves to the unrealistic ideals our media wants. Having a positive body image is very important as it can affect you mental and physical health.

Your perceptual body image is how you view yourself but it may not necessarily be how you actually look.

Affective body image is very important and it is how you feel about yourself. Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with your body?

Cognitive body image is the way you think about yourself. Some people might think that being thinner, muscular, taller or shorter will make them feel better about themselves.

Behavioural body image is when a person is unhappy with how they look they start to isolate themselves and sometimes they can develop mental illness.

Why is a positive body image so important? It is important because body image affects all the aspects above. When you have a positive body image about yourself you accept your body and figure. You gain confidence and are content!
